Ready Roast Nut Company Announces Plans For Reopened Portales Plant

Ready Roast Nut Company officials have announced plans to create jobs at the site of an eastern New Mexico peanut butter plant involved in a 2012 salmonella outbreak.

The Portales News-Tribune reports officials said this week it would create up to 200 jobs at the former home of Sunland Peanuts, which closed its doors in October 2013 after filing for bankruptcy.

The local peanut plant sold to Golden Boy Foods for $26 million in March 2014.

Ready Roast owner Thomas Finn said his California-based company had done business with Sunland in the past, so they were aware of the bankruptcy when it happened.

He said his company also works closely with Golden Boy Foods, so he and his partners were able to purchase the business from Golden Boy three months ago.
