Commentary: 75 years ago, my father was fighting Nazis in Germany. He and the other members of the Greatest Generation defeated the Nazis then. Who knew that today we would still have to fight those who wave that same flag?
Then, the general who lead the fight against the Nazis went on to become President of the United States as a member of the Republican Party. Today, the man who won the last election for President claims to be a member of that same party and yet defends Nazis.
Over 150 years ago, my Great-Great-Grandfather was fighting against the Confederacy. He and the rest of the United States of America defeated those who would tear apart our great country. Who knew that today we would still have to fight those who wave that same flag?
Then, the President of the United States who kept our country together was a member of the Republican Party. Today, the man who occupies that office and claims to be a member of that same party defends those who wave the battle flag of the Confederacy.
What is wrong with this picture and those who support the man that occupies the office of President?
