Report: NM Range Conditions Poor

Officials with the U.S. Department of Agriculture say range and pasture conditions across much of New Mexico are very poor.

The latest weather summary from the agency shows pastures in De Baca, Guadalupe and Quay counties are in bad shape following another dry winter. Recent winds have also helped to dry out the soil.

Some winter moisture has brought up a few weeds in some areas of Quay County, but officials say much more rain is needed for the grass-growing season to start.

Last week, New Mexico had above average temperatures with little precipitation. Temperatures in Santa Fe, Los Alamos and Tucumcari were 10 degrees above average.

A large portion of central and northeastern New Mexico are suffering from extreme drought, while other portions of the state are still dealing with moderate to severe conditions.
