Report Says Woman Shot By Officer Had Cocaine In Her System

Medical examiners have determined that a Santa Fe woman fatally shot by a New Mexico State Police officer after a chase had cocaine in her system.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that it obtained an Office of the Medical Examiner report on the death of 39-year-old Jeanette Anaya through a public records request.

Officer Oliver Wilson shot Anaya after a chase that started after he tried to pull over her car for erratic driving.

State Police have said Wilson fired when Anaya's car began to aggressively back up toward the officer and his car, which was struck.

An attorney for Anaya's family has said he does not believe the shooting or a bumping maneuver that Wilson used to stop Anaya's car were justified.
