Rep. Nate Gentry (R) is upset with the New Mexico Republican Party for a letter that appeared to be sent from him that contained a signature that wasn't his own and words he never said.
The politically-charged letter asking for donations was sent to nearly 11,000 New Mexico homes. It contained misspelled names and used the state's seal, which is not allowed in private political mailings.
KOB-TV reports Rep. Gentry says he found out about the letter Tuesday morning. He says he never reviewed it.
The state Republican Party admitted their mistake and say political consultants authored the letter.
A party spokesman says an oversight occurred leading them to believe that Rep. Gentry had approved the letter. He says they have worked to rectify the situation.
