A retired school administrator from northeastern New Mexico has been named by Gov. Susana Martinez to a board overseeing the state lottery.
Claude "Pal" Austin of Clayton was appointed to the seven-member New Mexico Lottery Authority.
He is a real estate broker and retired from Clayton Municipal Schools, where he was principal and superintendent.
Austin received his master's and bachelor's degrees in education from West Texas A&M University.
His nomination is subject to confirmation by the state Senate.
State law requires at least 30 percent of lottery revenues go to a college scholarship program that covers tuition for New Mexico students.
The lottery generated net ticket sales of nearly $142 million in the last fiscal year, and nearly $44 million of that went for the scholarship program.
