Reward Sought In Fatal Hit And Run

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect believed to be responsible for a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred Dec. 25, 2009.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on Christmas morning, Dona Ana County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the intersection of McCombs and Luna Street in Chaparral, N.M., where 36-year-old Abdel Rivera-Torres was struck by a vehicle as he walked on or near the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash left the scene without stopping to render aid. Rivera-Torres died as a result of his injuries.

Dona Ana County Sheriff's investigators believe Rivera-Torres was struck by a General Motors vehicle, possibly a mid 1990's model "S" Series Saturn, as it travelled northbound on McCombs. The vehicle was believed to be either metallic teal or bluish-green in color. The vehicle may have damage to the left front and grille. The vehicle also may have damage to its hood, windshield and roof.

Witnesses to the crash said the vehicle may have had a white license plate leading investigators to believe it may be registered in Texas. Investigators believe the driver of the vehicle may live or work in Chaparral, or in the northwest El Paso area.

If you have any information regarding this fatal hit-and-run crash, you are asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 526-8000 or outside the Las Cruces area at 1-800-897-2746.

The Crime Stoppers number is operational 24 hours a day and you do not have to give your name to collect a reward.
