Richardson Joins Governors Fiscal Leadership Council

Today, the Campaign to Fix the Debt announced the creation of the Governors Fiscal Leadership Council (GFLC), a bipartisan group of 41 former governors – 20 Republicans and 21 Democrats – from across the country united in the belief that our mounting national debt must be addressed to preserve America’s long-term fiscal health and prosperity. Included in the GFLC is former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson.

“Few can speak more credibly to the challenges and benefits of fiscal responsibility than those who have served as a governor,” said Maya MacGuineas, head of the Campaign to Fix the Debt. “We are honored to have Gov. Richardson as a member of the GFLC, because he understands the importance of working in a bipartisan fashion to get the job done. His commitment and experience are a tremendous asset to the Campaign as we push Congress and the Obama Administration to work together to find common ground and put the country on a sustainable fiscal path.”

The Campaign to Fix the Debt is a non-partisan movement asking lawmakers to work together on legislation large enough to stabilize and reduce the national debt as a share of the economy. Members come from a broad range of social, economic and political perspectives with the belief that America's growing debt burden threatens our future, and that we must address it now. The Campaign will mobilize key communities – including leaders from business, government, and policy – and people all across America who want to see elected officials step up to solve our nation's fiscal challenges.
