Rio Arriba County authorities have arrested a man on suspicion of breaking into the home of his 76-year-old neighbor and raping the woman.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that Sheriff James Lujan says 30-year-old Jason Cordova was arrested Friday after DNA found on the victim's body connected him to the May 4 attack. He faces several charges, including first-degree criminal sexual penetration and aggravated burglary.
Initial reports show the suspect, who lived down the street from the victim, knocked on the woman's door and forced his way inside when she answered. He's accused of beating and sexually assaulting her.
Lujan says the woman was taken to a hospital for extensive injuries.
Court records show Cordova does not have a violent criminal history and has never faced felony charges.
