The police department is reminding drivers that some roadways in Downtown Las Cruces will be closed Sunday evening in preparation for Independence Day activities held at that venue.
Roadways immediately surrounding the Downtown Mall – including Water Street, Church Street, Main Street, Griggs Avenue and Las Cruces Avenue – will be closed to all traffic beginning at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 3. Vehicular traffic in and out of the Downtown Mall will be prohibited during that time.
The road closures are necessary to help ensure the safety of those participating in the Electric 5K Fun Run which starts at 7:45 p.m. along Church Street and Water Street, and the Electric Light Parade which begins at 9 p.m. along Church Street and Main Street in Downtown Las Cruces.
The roadways are expected to re-open to traffic shortly after the conclusion of the Electric Light Parade.
Motorists are reminded to reduce speed and drive with extreme caution as Downtown Las Cruces is expected to be congested with pedestrian and vehicular traffic Sunday evening.
