Road Construction and Closures in Southern New Mexico

By KRWG News

Las Cruces, NM – Southern New Mexico motorists can expect some delays and detours this week, due to work on road shoulders, a bridge closure and improvements to several streets.

The Sunland Park bridge over the Rio Grande will be closed through mid January for corrective repairs. Detours will be posted to avoid congestion. Northbound traffic on Doniphan Drive east of Sunland Park Drive will be diverted through a one-lane passage because of paving work. In the Silver City area, construction work will continue on various sections of U.S. 180. The speed limit has been reduced to 25 miles per hour. The Department of Transportation cautions drivers to avoid speeding on the work zone or else face a double fine. New Mexico Highway 159 from mile marker ten to 23 near the Mogollon area has been closed for the winter. Several projects are scheduled this week in the Las Cruces area. Crews with the state DOT will work along the shoulder of the I-25 and I-10 interchange but traffic should not be affected. A number of road closures are planned including Stull Drive from Idaho to Sambrano Avenue, and Alliance Drive at Industrial Drive. Shoulder or lane improvements are planned on Del Rey Boulevard at Check Court Las Alturas Drive at Peter Herd and Lohman Avenue at Main Street. Meanwhile, construction on interstate10 just west of Las Cruces has been put on hold until January fifth.
