Robb McLean, MD, joins UNM SRMC as chief medical officer

  University of New Mexico emergency physician Robb McLean, MD, is joining the UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center (UNM SRMC) as chief medical officer.

"We are very excited the have Dr. McLean joining our team at UNM SRMC,” said hospital CEO Jamie Silva-Steele, RN. “We know that his prior experience in the UNM Health System will serve the organization very well."

“Dr. McLean brings a broad background in health care policy and practice to his new job,” said Michael E. Richards, MD, MPA, UNM’s vice chancellor for clinical affairs. “His skills are an excellent fit for our health system.”

In his new role, McLean will work with UNM SRMC leaders, medical staff, community providers and UNM School of Medicine department chairs to implement strategic direction, goals and medical policy at the hospital. The goal is to ensure a safe environment for patients through developing policies, procedures and processes based on current best practices.

McLean is an associate professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He received his MD from Indiana University and completed his emergency medicine residency at UNM in 2005. He returned as a faculty member in 2008 and for the past seven years has served as vice chair of clinical operations for the Department of Emergency Medicine. He is a former associate chief medical informatics officer for UNM Hospital and has been the executive medical director for medical staff affairs for UNM Hospital since 2012.

McLean brings regulatory, risk management and medical staff affairs experience to this new position, in addition to specific interests in clinical operations, revenue cycle improvement and hospital quality. He recently completed a master’s in health care management at Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

UNM SRMC, a community and teaching hospital located in Rio Rancho’s town center, was opened in 2012 with a mission of serving Sandoval County’s diverse communities. The facility includes a state-of-the-art radiology and women’s imaging department and six operating rooms. It includes 60 acute care inpatient beds in medical, surgical and intensive care units.
