State Sen. José Rodríguez issued the following statement regarding the decision by the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) to stop demolition proceedings at Lincoln Center.
The TXDOT decision reinstates the original commitment to give the community a year to find a solution to potentially preserve the Lincoln Center:
I appreciate very much that TXDOT’s new Executive Director, Lt. Gen. Joe Weber, came to see Lincoln Center himself, and that he made the decision this morning to honor the commitment previously made by the agency to not take any action regarding demolition of Lincoln Center until October. The community and the City Council under the leadership of Mayor Oscar Leeser have made their feelings clear about the significance of the Lincoln Center, and about the potential for its renewal. Now is the time to come together and commit to saving the Lincoln Center for future generations.
