Rodriguez On Texas Planned Parenthood Raids: "Gross Invasion Of Client Privacy"

State Senator José Rodríguez

Commentary:  The following is a statement issued by State Sen. José Rodríguez, Chairman of the Texas Senate Democratic Caucus, following the OIG’s raid at several Planned Parenthood health centers today:

Planned Parenthood has been repeatedly targeted by the state's leadership, and today's raid by the Texas Office of Inspector General on Planned Parenthood health centers in Houston, Dallas and San Antonio, with reporters in tow, represents another attack on women's health providers.

The OIG is asking for the entire original client record for certain clients in addition to business records concerning Medicaid.

“This is a gross invasion of client privacy, and I'm tired of watching low-income women become collateral damage in attacks on Planned Parenthood that are based on deceptive videos and political grandstanding. Texas should be increasing access to women’s healthcare and expanding Medicaid in order to take better care of our mothers and sisters, not shutting down health clinics and intimidating women from seeking services.”
