Roswell Police Still Short A Dozen Officers

Roswell police say they are still short around a dozen or so officers.

Roswell Deputy Chief Brad McFadin says the department is interviewing officers from other states in hopes of ending the officer shortage. He said the department has advertised job openings in Albuquerque and nearby states.

The hiring campaign, which began last year, has cut the shortage in half after Police Chief Alfonso Solis announced that the department was down about 25 officers.

The shortage comes as state data shows that Roswell and Chaves County have the state's highest "firearm injury emergency department visit rate," largely due to gang violence.
