Las Cruces – This week .a federal report indicated that only a small percentage of the $787 billion dollars in stimulus funds has been distributed.
That's due in part to the fact that some of the money is allocated to infrastructure projects that take months to plan and solicit bids.
But one major stimulus project in Las Cruces will be getting underway later this month.
The Las Cruces International Airport will hold a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of the Runway 12-30 Rehabilitation Project.
The groundbreaking will be held on Wednesday morning at 9 at the airport.
The project is funded largely through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act ..better known as the federal stimulus package.
It includes removing and replacing all pavement and subgrade, replacing the runway's electrical system, including runway lights and signs ..and marking and striping the completed runway.
Work on the project is expected to begin July 20th and take about nine months to complete.
