San Jose Cemetary In Las Cruces Damaged, Officials Concerned

Officials are concerned about how long it will take for damages at what is believed to be the oldest cemetery in Las Cruces to be repaired.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports that broken bricks and a path of destruction were still visible Wednesday from a vehicle that crashed into the San Jose Cemetery's wall Friday.

Officials from the St. Genevieve Catholic Church, located next to the cemetery, say they don't know how long it'll take until repairs are made or how much the repairs will cost.

At least 20 graves dating back from 1925 to 1989 were damaged, and at least eight headstones for those graves were broken.

Police say the teenage driver wasn't injured in the crash. He was cited for failing to yield at a stop sign.
