Police in Santa Fe are trying to avoid spooking a mother bear and her cub that have taken refuge in a tree a couple blocks from an elementary school.
Police said Friday morning the bear is treed near Atalaya Elementary in the city's southeast. They're waiting for state Game and Fish officers to arrive so the animals can be relocated.
In the meantime, parents driving their children to that school are being asked to avoid using Camino Delora. Police don't want the morning traffic to scare the bears.
Police say they'll send a warning if the bears move.
