Las Cruces, NM – When the next Congress convenes in January and February President Obama will give the State Of The Union Address and outline what is on his agenda.

Senator Bingaman says there are some things he would like to tackle quickly.

Bingaman-"I hope very much we can move to consider and pass important energy legislation in the New Year. I've been talking with Senator McCowsky who is the ranking member on the energy committee with me here in the senate. We're going to try to see if we can move ahead with some significant energy legislation fairly early in the new Congress."

Bingaman says he would like to create some kind of incentives for utilities to produce more of their energy from renewable sources.

Early in the process Congress will have to vote on the bill to fund the government for the rest of the fiscal year which Bingaman calls an "important milestone."
