"Sex Week" Organizer Slams UNM Officials

unm.edu

An organizer of a program promoting sex education at the University of New Mexico is criticizing school administrators for apologizing for the event.   Hunter Riley says it was disappointing to see UNM officials apologize "for offering clear and empowering sex education to students."

Riley works at the Self Serve Sexuality Resource Center in Albuquerque, one of the organizations sponsoring "Celebrate Sex Week at UNM."

Riley also urged students who object to the university's position to contact administrators.

The school received dozens of complaints about the planned workshops, which seemed to endorse promiscuity and multiple-partner encounters.

Vice President for Student Affairs Eliseo Torres apologized Wednesday, saying a lack of supervision allowed for the inclusion of "sensational and controversial" topics.
