Shiprock Woman Pleads Guilty In Fatal Accident

A Shiprock woman could face a lengthy prison term when she's sentenced in connection with a fatal accident.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for New Mexico says 29-year-old Samantha Deal pleaded guilty Thursday to involuntary manslaughter and assault charges in federal court in Albuquerque.

According to prosecutors, Deal was driving while under the influence of alcohol in San Juan County when the February 2013 accident occurred, killing a woman and seriously injuring two other people.

Prosecutors say Deal could be sentenced to up to eight years in prison on the manslaughter charge and to up to 10 years on each of the two counts of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
