Las Cruces – Can dancing help you learn math? The Keshet Dance Company does just that, by teaching juvenile offenders concepts such as angles, degrees and geometric shapes through physical movement.
And they do much more, including presenting multi-media dance performances such as "Ani Ma'amin," which explores the impact of the Holocaust on American Jews through dance, video testimonies, poetry and music.
They're performing it in Las Cruces on Thursday, March 3 at the Rio Grande Theatre, and in Albuquerque on March 5 and 6 at the VSA North Fourth Art Center.
Choreographer and director Shira Greenberg discusses with Leora Zeitlin her approach to dance, dance education, and the making of "Ani Ma'amin."
