Sibling Fight Ends In Stabbing

A 24-year-old Berino woman was arrested early Saturday morning by Doña Ana County Sheriff’s investigators after the woman allegedly stabbed her younger sister during an argument.

According to court documents, Laura Del Hierro was arguing with her 20-year-old sister just after 2 a.m.at a home in the 300 block of San Benito Street in Berino when the confrontation escalated to a physical fight. A third sister told investigators Del Hierro grabbed the victim by her hair and dragged her outside where she was reportedly seen “beating up” on the victim.

Witnesses said the victim found back, defending herself.

Moments later, the victim stood up and went into the kitchen of the home, complaining that she couldn’t breathe. Paramedics and sheriff’s deputies arrived shortly after to find the victim on the kitchen floor, covered in blood.  She was unresponsive, but paramedics were able to revive her and ask her who injured her.

When asked if Del Hierro was responsible, the victim reportedly gave the “thumbs up” sign to sheriff’s deputies.

The victim was transported to an El Paso-area hospital by ambulance with a stab wound to the abdomen and a laceration to her arm. Hospital staff reported her to be in “guarded but stable” condition after having surgery to remove her spleen and repair her left kidney.

Del Hierro reportedly fled the scene with another man, but was apprehended with the assistance of Anthony Police officers on Blue Stem Road.

Sheriff’s investigators transported Del Hierro to the Doña Ana County Detention Center where she is being held on a $20,000 cash-only bond for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon against a household member, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and tampering with evidence.

No weapon was ever recovered from the scene.
