Significant Snow Accumulations Expected From Winter Storm

New Mexico is geting a strong dose of winter weather with significant snow accumulations expected in northern, central and southeastern parts of the state

Forecasters say strong and gusty winds will reduce visibility amid blowing snow in some areas Monday. Roads are expected to become snow-packed and icy.

Snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are possible in the northwest highlands and the southwest mountains while the National Weather Service says 8 to 16 inches of snow are likely over the San Juan, Sangre de Christo and Jemez mountains. Peaks and west-facing slopes may get more than 2 feet.

Forecasters say snowfall will increase through the morning and that light to moderate snowfall will continue overnight.
