Silver City Man Charged in Las Cruces Domestic Altercation

Police arrested a Silver City man suspected of breaking his wife’s wrist during a physical altercation early Sunday morning in Las Cruces.

Julian H. Rodriguez, 29, of Briarwood Road in Silver City, N.M., is charged with one count of aggravated battery against a household member, three counts of battery against a household member and one count of interference with communications.

At about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, April 9, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to an apartment on the 900 block of Branson Avenue where Rodriguez and his 28-year-old wife had been temporarily staying.

Investigators learned that, earlier in the night, the couple got into an argument at a local country bar. When they returned to the apartment, the argument apparently escalated into a physical altercation.

At some point during the physical altercation, the woman tried to call for help. That’s when Rodriguez is suspected of forcefully taking away her phone and breaking her wrist in the process. Rodriguez is also suspected of breaking down a bedroom door to get to his wife and striking her several times.

The woman was transported to Memorial Medical Center where it was confirmed that her wrist was broken.

Rodriguez fled the home but officers subsequently located him sleeping in his vehicle on the 200 block of Motel Boulevard. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Rodriguez was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center on April 9 and posted a $3,000 bond the same day.
