Snowstorm Hits Parts Of New Mexico

A winter storm is causing blizzard conditions in northern and eastern New Mexico on Monday, with the greatest impact reported along Interstate 40.

Numerous highways are closed or difficult to drive, and schools are closed in some areas or opening late.

The storm is expected to move eastward into the Texas Panhandle by late morning, but the weather service says it'll remain bitterly cold with winds up to 50 mph.

The National Weather Service says there are snowfall reports of 8-10 inches in the area between Tucumcari on the north and Clovis and Portales on the south.

Schools in Clovis and Portales are closed, while schools in Santa Fe and part of the Albuquerque district are opening late.

Local government offices in Santa Fe are opening later.
