Socorro ISD Leaders Privately Review Audit Results

Leaders of a West Texas school district have reviewed preliminary results of an outside audit meant to determine if workers cheated on student accountability standards.

Trustees of the Socorro Independent School District met in private Tuesday night to discuss the draft report. Board members later declined comment.

Superintendent Jose Espinoza says recommendations will be made following release of the final report next week.

The school board in March approved a review to determine if staffers since 2008 tried to manipulate student transfer credits. Espinoza has said no allegations of wrongdoing were received by the district was being proactive and accountable.

Former El Paso ISD superintendent Lorenzo Garcia pleaded guilty to fraud in a testing scandal and was sentenced to more than three years in prison.
