Some NM Families May Qualify For Low-Cost Internet
Gov. Susana Martinez says New Mexico families may qualify for discounted broadband Internet service under a program by cable television provider Comcast.
Martinez joined with Comcast officials Thursday to promote the third year of a program allowing some families with school children to buy Internet service for $9.95 a month plus tax.
Families may be eligible, depending on their income, if they have children who can receive free or reduced-price school lunches.
Company officials said more than 4,000 New Mexico families, with nearly two-thirds of them in Albuquerque, are participating in the program.
The Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce and other community groups are helping to alert families to the program.
Super Bowl-winning NFL coach Tony Dungy, who represents Comcast, participated in Thursday's announcement.
