A New Mexico state senator from Las Cruces says….more needs to be done to encourage the creation of new businesses in the Land of Enchantment.
Senator Bill Soules says…New Mexico has to do more to encourage entrepreneurs. On a recent episode of KRWG-TV’s Your Legislators, Soules talked about a presentation he heard at the state capitol highlighting a program called Innovate Albuquerque. It’s a nonprofit launched by the University of New Mexico that created a downtown innovation district.
New Mexico State University also encourages entrepreneurs through its Arrowhead Center.
Soules says helping entrepreneurs is an important approach that should not be downplayed in favor of incentive programs to attract businesses from out of state.
As we recently reported, Soules has also introduced a bill to create a special liquor license in New Mexico that would allow small businesses to afford a license. That bill is also designed to boost the creation of new distilleries by limiting the special licenses to the sale of New Mexico-produced liquor.
