Spaceport Director Resigns

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – The executive director of the New Mexico Spaceport Authority has submitted his resignation.

The Economic Development Department announced that Steve Landeene is leaving his position after meeting all legislative mandates and putting Spaceport America on track to be operational by the end of the year.

Economic Development Secretary Fred Mondragon says he appreciates Landeene's service and wishes him well.

Landeene was hired in January 2008 as the authority's first executive director. His resignation is effective May 15.

In his letter to Mondragon, Landeene said he was submitting his resignation with mixed emotions. He said he needs to regain "some work/life balance" that cannot be accomplished given the stresses and time commitments of the executive director's role.

Mondragon says the state will begin looking for a new executive director.
