By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Las Cruces Police arrested a man for a stabbing that took place Friday afternoon.

Beau C. Hopper, 32, of the 900 block of south San Pedro Street, is charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of tampering with evidence.

At around 4:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, police were called to 505 South Main St. after someone stabbed a 66-year-old man in the back. The victim told officers he was walking in the parking lot when the suspect yelled at him, approached and struck him once in the back.

The suspect ran off and the victim quickly discovered that he had been stabbed. The victim was transported to Mountain View Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police identified Hopper as the suspect. He was located a few minutes later at his residence. A kitchen knife Hopper used to commit the crime was found in a nearby garbage bin.

Detectives do not believe the victim and Hopper knew each other prior to this incident.

Hopper was being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $15,000.
