Standoff In Las Cruces

twitter.com/Las Cruces Sun News

Las Cruces Police are continuing to assist New Mexico State Police with a high risk traffic stop on Avenida de Mesilla.

At around 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, New Mexico State Police asked LCPD for assistance with a vehicle that was eastbound on I-10 and refusing to stop for their officers.

The vehicle ultimately exited I-10 at Avenida de Mesilla and began heading eastbound where it was stopped by police between Valley Drive and Main Street. The man who was driving has remained inside the car and is refusing to cooperate with police.

The Las Cruces Police Department’s SWAT team was activated and members of LCPD’s Crisis Intervention Team have been in contact with the driver with the hopes of resolving the situation peacefully.

Las Cruces Police continue to ask motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area between Avenida de Mesilla and south Main Street. Residents who live or work in the surrounding neighborhoods are asked to shelter in place until the matter is resolved.
