Study: A Third Of Adult Texans Have Been Sexually Assaulted

A newly released university study has found that about a third of the state's adult population, including about two out of every five Texas women, have suffered a sexual assault in their lifetimes.

The report released Tuesday on the study by the University of Texas at Austin found that 6.3 million adult Texans have experienced some form of sexual assault. Of those, 4.2 million were women and 2.1 million were men.

Of those, 413,000 experienced some form of sexual assault in the past year and 65 percent have been victimized more than once.

The assaults consisted not only of rape but also such sexual activities as unwanted kissing, involuntary exposure to sexual photos or movies and unwanted sexual contact when intoxicated and unable to give consent.
