Las Cruces was pounded by a severe thunderstorm, including accumulating hail, at about 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The National Weather Service warned of quarter-size hail. On the New Mexico State University campus, where KRWG is located, the frozen precipitation was closer to dime-size or smaller. But the hail came down in heavy amounts, enough to accumulate on pavement, making walking a very dangerous activity.
The storm also included heavy rain, much needed in the area after a dry spring. However, the rain did cause flooding in some areas, as well as winds of up to 60 miles per hour.
Thankfully, only isolated storms are possible Thursday. As the storms move out, Thursday should be partly sunny with a high of 74. Friday through Tuesday, expect sunny skies with temperatures in the low 80's.
