The Sun Powers Cloudcroft's Water Treatment Plant

By KRWG News

Cloudcroft – Cloudcroft's reverse osmosis water treatment plant is being powered by a new photovoltaic solar array.

The village's wastewater plant supervisor, Tom Stewart, estimates the solar array will save Cloudcroft $2,000 to $3,000 a month in electrical costs.

He says that when the pumps in the reverse osmosis plant are not running, power generated goes back into the electrical grid.

Mayor Dave Venable says excess power generated by the solar array will be banked for later use or credited to the village by Otero County Electric Cooperative.

The system went into operation last week.
