Sunday Road Closures In Las Cruces

The following is a partial list of some of the more significant closures on Sunday in Las Cruces:

·         Interstate 25:  I-25 Southbound will have a rolling closure from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm as the funeral procession moves from Hatch, NM to the Pan American Center.  While only the southbound lanes and on/off ramps will be closed while the procession is taking place, drivers who are northbound can also expect that there might be some traffic slowdown in areas where people decide to pull over as a sign of respect as the procession passes.

·         University Ave. & Triviz Drive Intersection:  Heavy traffic is expected at this location.  When the funeral procession exits I-25, the entire intersection will be closed to all other traffic.  In addition, westbound traffic on University Avenue will be stopped at Don Roser Drive.  This closure is expected sometime between 2:30 and 3:00 pm.  Other traffic in the area is encouraged to use alternate routes to get around this intersection.

·         Arrowhead Drive:  This street will be closed immediately East of the Pan American Center, between Triviz Drive and Stewart Street, in order to accommodate the procession, as well as pedestrian traffic between the parking lots and the Pan American Center.  This closure will go in place early Sunday morning and will remain until traffic has left the area.

·         Parking Lot #33 (South Pan Am):  This parking lot will be closed in order to provide parking for emergency vehicles taking part in the procession.

·         Sisbarro Community Park:  The North half of the Community Park will be closed in order to provide a landing zone for helicopters taking part in the ceremonies.  Any use of unmanned aircraft (e.g., drones and model aircraft) are prohibited within 1 mile of this location in accordance with FAA regulations due to the manned aircraft operating within this zone.

Other streets in the area may experience some delays due to traffic coming to and leaving the service.  Police officers will be directing traffic at key locations to minimize delays.
