Sunland Park Fills Vacant Council Seat

  The Sunland Park City Council has selected Kenneth B. (Ken) Giove to fill the First District seat. He was nominated by Mayor Javier Perea and elected by a 3-1 vote.

The seat became vacant when former Councilor Christian Lira resigned.  Councilor Giove had ran in the March election placing second in District 1 by a narrow margin of 3 votes. His selection at this time will be until the next city election in 2016 at which time he can run for a full term if he chooses.  

Giove is a Navy Veteran, served in the Merchant Marines, Border Patrol and various civilian jobs.  Giove has lived in Sunland Park for more than 4 years, and his spouse has many family ties in the community.  He is married with 3 children and 4 grandchildren.
