Sunland Park Officials Warned Of Water Sample Fraud

Several City of Sunland Park residents have reported being asked for water samples by people claiming to represent the Camino Reál Regional Utility Authority. The authority director said no such door-to-door sampling initiative is underway, and residents should report anyone seeking a water sample to the local police.

“This action is illegal, and it needs to stop,” said CRRUA Executive Director Brent Westmoreland. “If our office finds out who is behind this effort, we will turn it over to the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.”

Westmoreland said each CRRUA employee wears a uniform bearing the CRRUA logo, as well as a badge with the employee’s photo and name issued by Doña Ana County.

To report an unauthorized attempt to sample water from your home, try to get the person to reveal his or her name and then call the Sunland Park Police Department at (575) 589-0388. Try to get the license plate number of the vehicle the person is using.

Anyone with information about the people going door-to-door in the City of Sunland Park is asked to call the Camino Reál Regional Utility Authority at (575) 589-9989.
