Suspect Sought In Drive-By Shooting Investigation

A warrant was issued late Thursday for the arrest of an 18-year-old Las Cruces man who Doña Ana County Sheriff’s detectives say is a suspect in a series of drive-by shootings last week east of Las Cruces.

According to court documents, Eric Brooks, who lives in the 9100 block of Corona, is wanted on one count of shooting at an inhabited dwelling and two counts of shooting at or from a motor vehicle. The allegations are all fourth-degree felony charges.

Sheriff’s detectives say Brooks allegedly fired a gun at a house in the 8900 block of Lisa Drive off Weisner on Aug. 18, and allegedly again fired shots at a vehicle on Aug. 20 near Moongate and Corona and again on Aug. 21 near Siri Lane.

Detectives believe Brooks and the victims he targeted were connected through a drug deal.

The bond for Brooks’ arrest was set at $100,000 secured. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority, (575) 526-0675 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be sent via text message to CRIMES (274637) using the keyword LCTIPS. The hotline and text message service are operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
