Suspect Surrenders After Drive-By Shooting

A 20 year-old Anthony man was arrested Monday night after he surrendered to Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies, claiming he was responsible for a drive-by shooting that sent one girl to the hospital.

Just before 7 p.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of Stern Dr. and Livesay in Anthony in reference to a shooting. Witnesses said the gunfire was directed at a group of two females and three males, all under the age of 18. A 17 year-old girl sustained a gunshot wound to the upper left thigh and was taken to an El Paso-area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after, Oscar Salais, 20, surrendered to investigators who were on the scene. He was taken to the Doña Ana County Detention Center on one count of shooting at or from a motor vehicle, five felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one felony count of tampering with evidence.

Salais is being held on a $10,000 surety bond.
