Suspect In Woman's Death Arrested After Albuquerque Standoff

Bernalillo County authorities say they have arrested a suspect in connection with his girlfriend's death following an hourlong standoff involving members of a SWAT team.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Felicia Romero said Sunday that the 44-year-old suspect had barricaded himself inside an Albuquerque apartment and refused to leave. She says he eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.

Capt. Justin Dunlap says the suspect is facing charges of murder and tampering with evidence in the death of 41-year-old Alma Contreras.

Authorities have released little information regarding the woman's death, other than to say she was found dead Thursday night.

The case remains under investigation.
