The Las Cruces Fire Department extinguished a house fire Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to the west Las Cruces home, located near the corner of Brownlee and 6th Street, just after 4:00 p.m. Crews encountered an active fire burning in an unoccupied residence. Firefighters were able to confine the fire to the rear of the structure before it could cause additional damage to the main section of the house. The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes and a search of the structure revealed that no one was inside.
Investigators stated that the fire was suspicious in nature and actively under investigation. Las Cruces Police officer’s detained two individuals of interest near the scene. The cause of the fire and the dollar value of the loss have not been determined.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
