T or C Gets New Ambulance

Earlier today, USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner was in Truth Consequence, New Mexico to present the keys to a new ambulance to the administrators of Sierra Vista Hospital located in that community.

As he was presenting the keys Brunner commented, “I’m pleased USDA Rural Development was able to fund the purchase of this new ambulance. By doing so we are ultimately helping improve the public safety for those living in Sierra County and for those traveling through this area.” Brunner added, “When there is an emergency, all those needing help should have access to the best possible medical care possible –and that’s what we are providing with this financial support.”

USDA Rural Development provided a grant for $55,350 to Sierra Vista Hospital to purchase the ambulance.  The money used to purchase the new equipment was provided by USDA Rural Development’s Community Facility Program which funds equipment and buildings.

The new vehicle is a 4x4 ambulance which will be used for regular emergency calls but it will also be able to respond to medical emergencies in the remote areas of Sierra County. It will replace a 1996 ambulance which had almost 250,000 miles and was unreliable. The new vehicle is equipped with the latest medical equipment to provide the best emergency health care service to patients. This is the second ambulance that USDA Rural Development funded in the last two years for use by Sierra Vista Hospital.

Sierra Vista Hospital’s current fleet of four ambulances has two vehicles with significant mechanical problems that seriously compromise their patient safety during transport.  The two new ambulances funded by USDA Rural Development have replaced two old ambulances that have now been decommissioned.

The purchase of the new 4x4 ambulance is the latest funding that USDA Rural Development has provided in the last five years in Sierra County.  In that time the agency has obligated over $10.9 million for various projects including; home loans and repairs, the funding of a wastewater project, the construction of a new hotel and financing other small businesses.
