"Take It Back Day" For Las Cruces Teachers

Las Cruces teachers are holding a demonstration this afternoon (Wednesday) at the School Administration building.

It’s called “Take It Back Day.”  A coalition of groups has joined with the National Education Association to send the message that the state imposed teacher evaluation system is about using tests to punish educators and it's also hurting students.

Teachers argue there are simply too many tests….and those tests are taking teacher contact time away from students.

KRWG has invited Public Education Secretary designate Hanna Skandera to join us for a half hour interview to discuss her department’s initiatives.

This afternoon’s demonstration takes place from 4:15 to 6 at the school district administration parking lot.  That’s in the Loretto Town Center at 505 South Main Street in Las Cruces.

And….from 6:30 to 8 tonight…there’s a forum on testing and school grading systems….as well as the common core requirements.  That forum will be held at the Branigan Library.
