TEA Party Tension In Texas

Texas can sometimes feel like tea party heaven. It's home to Ted Cruz and a state Legislature packed with hard-right devotees. Even the governor heeds fringe fears that a routine U.S. military exercise could be a ploy to seize the state.

But with so much power comes pressure. The Texas Legislature's tea party leaders are struggling to deliver on some of their most conservative promises and to shepherd insurgent lawmakers who aren't accustomed to being team players.

After the recent legislative session, some conservative activists were openly unhappy with the results. Many popular tea party issues fizzled, included repealing the state's offer of in-state tuition to some college students in the country illegally. Tea party groups may target several conservative lawmakers for failing to deliver.
