Las Cruces – A Hatch Valley Middle School science teacher has been indicted on charges he sent sexually explicit messages to one of his students over an eight-month period.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports 50-year-old John Hesse of Las Cruces allegedly had "sexual contact" with the 14-year-old girl at least twice.
Hesse's attorney Jess Lilley says the alleged "sexual contact" is believed to be inappropriate touching.
Hesse was arrested May 3 and briefly jailed before being released on bond. He is also charged with soliciting a minor via electronic device and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office says the girl's mother found evidence of the relationship and was able to determine the person was actually her daughter's teacher.
