Texas Democrats Blast Plan To Cut Early Voting Days

Democrats in the Texas House blasted a Republican proposal to reduce the number of early voting days in Texas.

Members of the House Election Committee on Monday questioned witnesses who wanted to cut the number of early voting days from 12 to seven.

Supporters said it was hard to get volunteers to monitor the polls for all 12 days. But opponents said it was simply an effort to suppress voter turnout.

Lawmakers also considered a proposal to install video feeds at polling stations intended to let voters know whether there is a line at their polling station. Another bill would call for all general elections to take place on the first Tuesday of November.

The committee did not vote on whether to recommend the laws to the full House.
