Texas Drought Now Second Worst Ever

By KRWG News

Texas – Officials say that Texas is now in the midst of its second-worst drought on record.

National Weather Service meteorologist Victor Murphy said Tuesday that this year's drought has now usurped the one in 1918 as the second driest period in the state.

Last week, the state climatologist declared this the most severe one-year drought on record in Texas. He says the most severe Texas drought overall is still the one from 1950-1957.

The state saw less than an inch of rain statewide in July, and more than 90 percent of the state is already in the two most extreme stages of drought.

Texas has endured its driest consecutive eight, nine and 10 months on record.

A newly updated weather map showed the drought holding firm through at least October.
