Republican state senators have rejected every proposed change to court-drawn political districts, setting the stage for what will likely be years of lawsuits.
The Senate Redistricting Committee met in Austin on Wednesday and adopted the current political maps for use in 2014.
Gov. Rick Perry called the Legislature into special session to adopt redistricting maps drawn by federal judges after a separate court declared maps drawn by lawmakers to be unconstitutional.
Minority groups say the court-drawn maps are too similar to the original maps. They want to add more districts for minorities, who made up 90 percent of the population growth in Texas since 2000.
Democrats proposed three changes that would have given minorities more power to win elections, but Republicans voted against any changes to the court's maps.
