Texas Man Gets New Mexico Prison Term For Heroin Trafficking

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A Texas man has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for heroin trafficking in New Mexico.

Prosecutors say 62-year-old Eleodoro Sanchez of Canutillo also was sentenced Wednesday to three years of supervised release after completing his prison term.

Sanchez pleaded guilty in the case in March.

Authorities say Sanchez was a member of a heroin trafficking organization operating out of Sunland Park that was targeted by an investigation led by federal drug agents.

Ten members of the heroin trafficking ring were charged in July 2016 in a 30-count indictment charging them with conspiring to distribute the drug in New Mexico's Dona Ana County and elsewhere between May and July of 2016.

According to the indictment, Sanchez routinely distributed heroin for the leader of the drug trafficking organization.
